MOT Testing

When a work vehicle breaks down, the knock-on effects start immediately. You might expect missed deadlines, frustrated customers, and the cost of sorting alternative cover. Regular servicing is the most straightforward way to avoid that situation.
Our qualified technicians carry out scheduled servicing and repairs to manufacturer-recommended standards. For commercial vehicles, identifying a fault early is often the difference between a planned repair and an unplanned breakdown.
We use dealer-level diagnostic equipment to read fault codes, investigate engine management issues, trace electrical faults, and interpret warning lights. You get a clear explanation of what has been found and what needs to be done before any work goes ahead.
Our commercial servicing covers:

Keeping a commercial vehicle legally roadworthy means staying on top of MOT testing. We carry out tests for three vehicle classes:
We also carry out campervan MOTs and minibus safety inspections for operators running vehicles under a Section 19 permit or PSV licence, including schools and community transport groups. Most PSV operators require safety checks every six to eight weeks. We schedule these alongside routine MOTs and servicing to reduce vehicle downtime and keep your compliance records in order.
We aim to complete most MOTs within 45 minutes. If your vehicle fails and we carry out the remedial work, the retest is free.
Looking to repaint your van in your company colours, add your logo to its doors, or repair cosmetic damage from daily use? Our body shop handles the work professionally and to a high standard.
Our body shop services cover:
Most commercial vehicles should be serviced every 6 months or every 10,000-15,000 miles, whichever comes first. Vehicles used heavily, such as vans on daily delivery routes, may need more frequent attention. Sticking to a regular schedule reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns, which can mean missed jobs and lost income.
If you are unsure what interval suits your vehicle, the team at Sunrise Service & MOT Centre can advise based on your make, model, and usage.
A standard commercial vehicle service covers the key components that affect safety, reliability, and running costs. This includes an oil and filter change, brake inspection, tyre check, battery test, lights check, and a review of fluid levels throughout. A more detailed full service also covers the exhaust system, suspension, steering, and drivetrain.
Sunrise Service & MOT Centre’s technicians carry out all work to manufacturer standards, keeping the vehicle's warranty valid.
Several signs suggest your van or commercial vehicle is due for attention.
Watch out for the following:
If you notice any of these, book a Diagnostics Check sooner rather than later to avoid a more serious problem.
Brake defects are the most common reason commercial vehicles are placed out of service during roadside inspections. Worn brake pads, low fluid levels, and faulty brake lights are among the most frequently cited issues. Tyre condition and inflation are also common failure points. Regular servicing catches these problems before they result in a prohibition notice or a failed MOT.
Sunrise Service & MOT Centre offers Brakes and Tyres Servicing for commercial vehicles, carried out by qualified technicians.
A Class 7 MOT applies to goods vehicles with a design gross weight between 3,001kg and 3,500kg. If your van falls within this weight range, it requires an annual Class 7 test rather than a standard Class 4 MOT. Sunrise Service & MOT Centre carries out Class 7 MOTs at its Blandford workshop, along with Class 4 and Class 5 tests.
If your commercial vehicle fails its MOT and the remedial work is carried out by Sunrise Service & MOT Centre, a free retest is included. This applies to Class 4, Class 5, and Class 7 tests. You will not need to pay twice to get the vehicle approved, provided the repairs are completed at the garage.
If you operate a minibus under a Section 19 or Section 22 permit, or hold a PSV licence, regular safety inspections are a legal requirement under DVSA guidance. Most minibuses need to be inspected every 6 or 10 weeks, depending on age, usage, and operating licence conditions. The inspections cover brakes and tyres, steering, lighting, bodywork, and seatbelts. Missing an inspection can result in fines or a licence suspension.
Sunrise Service & MOT Centre carries out thorough Minibus Safety Inspections at its Blandford workshop, with documentation provided to support compliance records.
A diesel particulate filter (DPF) captures soot produced by the engine, stopping it from being released into the atmosphere. Most modern diesel vans are fitted with one as standard. Over time, the filter can become blocked, particularly on vehicles used for short, low-speed journeys. A blocked DPF causes a warning light, reduced power, higher fuel consumption, and a failed MOT emissions test.
Sunrise Service & MOT Centre works on a wide range of commercial and corporate vehicles at its Blandford workshop, with facilities that accommodate vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, including most long wheelbase models. Vehicles covered include:

Not automatically. HMRC defines a commercial vehicle as one primarily constructed for the transportation of goods rather than passengers. Most panel vans, pickup trucks, and chassis cabs meet this definition, but vehicles modified with rear seating may be reclassified as cars for tax purposes. For pickup trucks, payload is often the deciding factor. Vehicles with a payload of one tonne or more are more likely to qualify. If classification affects a tax or leasing decision, speak to your accountant.
